Little Millet is one of the many millets that have been pushed into obscurity. Cultivated and consumed widely till a few years ago, this crop was kind of an insurance for the farmer.
Like all other millets, this is a hardy plant and would take care of the farmers' basic livelihood in case of failure of the other delicate crops such as Hybrid Rice etc.
Vari as it is known in Marathi, or Moriyo in Gujarati - this grain is rich in minerals. Thus it has been woven into our diet as a part of the permitted foods during fasts, when the body needs to be supported with some basic nutrition.
